Christ & the Church: Living Out the Power of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit leads every believer to a deeper knowledge of Jesus Christ. In the second chapter of the Book of Acts, we find a powerful account of how this transformation works.
The early church grew rapidly as the Apostles and leaders boldly testified about the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and the power to change lives. Those who accepted Jesus and turned away from their sinful ways were empowered to live out that change daily.
Proof from Scripture
The Bible describes how the first-century church multiplied through key factors:
- Miracles and signs performed through the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Unity and fellowship among believers.
- Genuine care and love for one another.
- Effective discipleship that grounded new believers in the faith.
- Visible inner peace and contentment that drew non-believers to Christ.
These elements created a thriving, Spirit-filled community where faith was more than words—it was lived out every day.
Faith in Action: Working People Changing the World
Another way to understand the early church is this:
- Working people shared what God was doing in their lives with other working people.
- Working people took care of each other and met practical needs.
- Working people showed a radical difference in the way they lived and worked.
- Working people demonstrated their faith before coworkers and family members.
- Working people impacted their communities through genuine relationships with Jesus Christ.
Despite disease, trials, persecution, and hardships, these believers lived with joy and hope. Those watching from the outside could only explain their conduct as a true work of God.
Bringing First-Century Faith into the Twenty-First Century
Today, the church needs that same connection to the first-century believers. Their faith was:
- Forgiving and grace-filled
- Genuine and transparent
- Unifying in fellowship
- Rooted in effective discipleship
- Marked by inner peace and contentment
When believers live out this kind of faith today, it creates a powerful testimony to the world—a testimony that Jesus Christ still changes lives.
Be blessed, until next time…
