How does a believer learn to connect a ministry in the workplace?
Honestly, it is one of the hardest things in this life to do!
It first means that one must stop thinking about self and think about service.
Developing a personal ministry means being committed to something bigger than yourself.
Ministry Is Not About You
- Do you think that Matthew, when he left everything this world had to offer, thought for one moment that it was all about him?
When confronted with God’s grace, this liar and cheater stopped what he was doing to follow and serve Jesus!
Ministry is having a servant’s heart!
- Do you think the woman who served God by wiping Jesus’ feet thought it was all about her?
I doubt it. Even in her immature spiritual state, God valued her willingness to be used!
Ministry is being available for God’s purpose.
- Do you think the demon-possessed man healed by Jesus thought it was all about him?
Jesus used him as an example to others for the glory of God.
Ministry is being available to share!
- Do you think the boy whose fish were used to feed the multitudes thought it was all about him?
Jesus used what he had to bless many.
Ministry is using what God gives us to spread the good news.
- Do you think the woman healed of her illness thought it was all about her?
Her healing led her to immediately glorify God.
Ministry is not about being smart, trained, or perfect—it’s about having godly priorities.
Ministry Means Humility and Action
- What about the prodigal son?
Did he think it was all about him after returning home?
By that time, he had come to grips with his bad decisions. He realized he wasn’t as important as he once thought.
Ministry is putting things right.
- What about the tax collector who repented?
He restored and repaid what he stole to honor God.
Ministry is being selfless.
- And what about all the selfish people in Scripture?
They were disappointed when faced with a holy and just God.
Luke reminds us:
Everyone who exalts themselves shall be humbled, and whoever humbles themselves shall be exalted.
Ministry is not about self.
Connecting Ministry with the Workplace
So how can anyone develop a simple workplace connection in order to minister?
It’s a matter of developing ministry as we go. This is the relevance of the gospel—it has the power to impact life anywhere and everywhere.
Here’s how to get started:
1. Start With Prayer
- Pray regularly for coworkers, clients, students, customers—even your boss.
- Pray for their needs, concerns, and families.
- Build relationships and ask how you can specifically pray.
2. Ask for Compassion
- Pray for God’s Spirit to lead you in showing love.
- Pray that your life would be an open book before others.
- Pray that your conduct would earn you the right to be heard.
3. Share When It’s Time
- When the opportunity arises, share your Christ story.
- Be non-threatening, appropriate, respectful, and sensitive.
Always remember: You are Christ’s witness.
Be Blessed Until Next Time…
